The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC), also known as the Canadian Open Math Competition, is organized by the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS), an internationally authoritative academic institution. It is regarded as Canada's most influential national mathematics competition and serves as the first round of selection for the Canadian Olympiad Math Team. The top 50 high scorers (with Canadian citizenship) in the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad will be invited to participate in the second round of selections, competing for a spot in the national team training camp. Surveys indicate that students applying to the top 25 universities in the UK annually prioritize participating in the COMC. Additionally, the COMC is also a key consideration for admission to prestigious Canadian universities.
Exam Format and Schedule
Eligibility: High school students of any grade
Scoring Breakdown: The competition consists of 12 questions worth a total of 80 points, divided into three sections: Short-answer questions: 4 questions, 4 points each, totaling 16 points.;Challenge questions: 4 questions, 6 points each, totaling 24 points;Full-solution questions: 4 questions, 10 points each, totaling 40 points.
Special Note: All questions require step-by-step solutions. Partial credit is awarded for correct reasoning and methodology, even if the final answer is incorrect.
