Exam Guidelines

Important:

Remember, if you’re taking a fully digital or hybrid digital AP Exam in Bluebook, you’ll need to know your College Board student account information to sign in to Bluebook on exam day. Saving your password on your device won’t work.

What You Should Bring

For All Exams:  

  • A watch that isn’t a smartwatch.

  • A government-issued or school-issued photo ID if you don’t attend the school where you’re taking the exam.

  • For exams that allow or require the use of calculators: You can bring up to 2 approved calculators with the necessary capabilities. (Note: The Desmos built-in calculator is also available as an option in Bluebook for these exams.)

  • For AP Physics Exams: You can bring a ruler or straightedge.

  • Pencils or pens:

    • For fully digital AP Exams and AP Chinese and AP Japanese Exams: You should bring pencils or pens for taking notes on school-provided scratch paper.

    • For hybrid digital AP Exams: You should bring 2 No. 2 pencils (with erasers) or pens with black or dark blue ink to write in the free-response booklet.

For All Digital AP Exams (fully digital and hybrid digital):

  • Fully charged testing device with Bluebook installed (if your testing school isn’t providing one for you) and a charging cord/AC adapter that’s compatible with your testing device.

  • External devices.

    • Power banks and external laptop batteries are permitted. You’ll need to leave any external power source on your desk for inspection prior to the start of the exam. Students must not share external power sources.

You Must Not Bring*  

  • Electronic equipment of any kind (except devices being used for the exam). Prohibited electronic equipment includes: phones, smartwatches, smart glasses or wearable technology of any kind, laptops, tablet computers, Bluetooth devices**, portable listening or recording devices, cameras or other photographic equipment, devices that can access the internet, separate timers of any type, and any other electronic or communication devices.

  • All stylus pens, Apple pens, smart pens, iPad pencils, and other electronic writing instruments.

  • Books, notebooks, compasses, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, or notes.

  • Mechanical pencils, No. 3 pencils, or colored pencils. 

  • Rulers or straightedges (these are allowed only for AP Physics exams). 

  • Protractors.

  • Scratch paper.

  • Computers or calculators (except as previously noted).

  • Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions. 

  • Watches that beep or have an alarm. 

  • Food or drink.  

  • Clothing or shoes with subject-related information.  

  • Head coverings (hats, brimmed caps, etc.) are not permitted while testing. Head coverings worn for medical or religious reasons are permitted during testing provided they do not obstruct testing staff’s ability to view the test taker’s eyes and ears. 

  • Earplugs or headphones. 

  • Clipboards. 

  • Privacy screens. 

  • Separate computer monitors.

 

*Unless an item has been pre-approved as an accommodation by the College Board SSD office before the exam date.

**Bluetooth devices are permitted only in the following scenarios: Bluetooth external keyboards for students taking digital AP Exams on tablets; Bluetooth external mice for all digital AP Exams.

A student observed with any prohibited items during testing or breaks may be dismissed from the exam, the device may be confiscated, the student’s score may be canceled, and no retest may be permitted.

 

Follow any specific health and safety protocols for the exam room that your school may have in place. AP policies allow you to bring hand sanitizer to the room, but it must be placed under the desk, not on the desk. You may use any other PPE (such as masks) following your school’s current requirements.

2026 AP Exam Registration Deadlines and Fees

***Registration is on a first come, first served basis.  Please note there are a limited number of seats available for each exam.  Registrations occurring from September 15th, 2025 -November 10th, 2025 will be charged $230 per exam. After November 10, 2025, if seats are available, students will be charged $285 per exam, which includes the College Board late fee.   Registration closes February 27th, 2026***

Exams Overview

AP Biology: The AP Biology Exam assesses student understanding of the science practices and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours long and includes 60 multiple-choice questions and 6 free-response questions. A four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator is allowed on

both sections of the exam.

AP Microeconomics: The AP Microeconomics Exam assesses student understanding of the skills and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 2 hours and 10 minutes long and includes 60 multiple-choice questions and 3 free-response questions. Starting with the 2022–23 school year (spring

2023 exam), a four-function calculator is allowed on both sections the exam.

AP Chemistry: The AP Chemistry Exam assesses student application of the science practices and understanding of the learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours and 15 minutes long and includes 60 multiple-choice questions and 7 free-response questions. A scientific or graphing calculator is recommended for use on both sections of the exam. Students are provided with the periodic table and a formula sheet that lists specific and relevant formulas for use on the exam.

AP Human Geography: The AP Human Geography Exam assesses student understanding of the skills and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 2 hours and 15 minutes long and includes 60 multiple-choice questions and 3 free-response questions.

 

AP English Literature and Composition: The AP English Literature and Composition Exam assesses student

understanding of the skills and essential knowledge outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours long and includes 55 multiple-choice questions and 3 free-response questions.

 

AP Physics 1: Algebra-Based: The AP Physics 1 Exam assesses student application of the science practices and understanding of the learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours long and includes 40 multiple- choice questions and 4 free-response questions. A four-function scientific or graphing calculator is allowed on both sections of the exam.

AP Physics 2: Algebra-Based: The AP Physics 2 exam assesses student application of the science practices and understanding of the learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours long and includes 40 multiple- choice questions and 4 free-response questions. A four-function scientific, or graphing calculator is allowed on both sections of the exam.

 

AP World History: Modern: The AP World History Exam assesses student understanding of the historical thinking skills and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours and 15 minutes long and students are required to answer 55 multiple-choice questions, 3 short-answer questions,

1 document-based question, and 1 long essay question.

 

AP Statistics: The AP Statistics Exam assesses student understanding of the skills and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours long and includes 40 multiple-choice questions and 6 free-response questions.

 

AP Macroeconomics: The AP Macroeconomics Exam assesses student understanding of the skills and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 2 hours and 10 minutes long and includes 60 multiple-choice questions and 3 free-response questions. Starting with the 2022–23 school year (spring 2023 exam), a four-function calculator is allowed on both sections of the exam. ​

AP Calculus AB: The AP Calculus AB and BC Exams assess student understanding of the mathematical practices and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exams are both 3 hours and 15 minute long and include 45 multiple-choice questions and 6 free-response questions.

AP Calculus BC: The AP Calculus AB and BC Exams assess student understanding of the mathematical practices and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exams are both 3 hours and 15 minute long and include 45 multiple-choice questions and 6 free-response questions. ​

 

AP Psychology: The AP Psychology Exam assesses student understanding of the skills and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 2 hours and 40 minutes long and includes 75 multiple-choice questions and 2 free-response questions, each weighted equally.

 

AP English Language and Composition: The AP English Language and Composition Exam assesses student

understanding of the skills and essential knowledge outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours and 15 minutes long and includes 45 multiple-choice questions and 3 free-response questions.

 

AP Physics C: Mechanics: The AP Physics C: Mechanics exam assesses student application of the science practices and understanding of the learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours long and includes 40 multiple- choice questions and 4 free-response questions. A four-function scientific or graphing calculator is allowed on both sections of the exam.

AP Computer Science Principles: The AP Computer Science Principles Exam assesses student understanding of the computational thinking practices and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam consists of the Create performance task and an end-of-course AP Exam. The Create performance task requires at least 9 hours of dedicated class time for students to complete. The end-of-course exam is 3 hours long and includes 70 multiple-choice questions and 2 written response questions related to their Create performance task. The two questions include four distinct prompts: Written Response 1, Written Response 2(a), Written Response 2(b), and Written Response 2(c). Students will be given their student-authored Personalized Project Reference to use when answering these written response prompts.

 

The multiple-choice section will include three different types of questions (in the following order on the exam): single-select questions, single-select questions with a reading passage about a computing innovation, and multi-select questions. As part of the exam, students will be given the Exam Reference Sheet, which contains both block-based and text-based programming constructs and establishes a common way to communicate programming concepts for the purpose of the exam.

 

AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism: The AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism Exam assesses student application of the science practices and understanding of the learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 3 hours long and includes 40 multiple-choice questions and 4 free-response questions. A four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator is allowed on both sections of the exam.

AP Environmental Science: The AP Environmental Science Exam assesses student understanding of the

science practices and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 2 hours and 40 minutes long and includes 80 multiple-choice questions and 3 free-response questions. A four-function, scientific, orgraphing calculator is allowed on both sections of the exam.

Parking is available in the underground lot at 920 Yonge Street. An additional parking lot is also available on McMurrich Street, behind the building, and can be used as an alternative on the test date. Please note that all parking spots are paid.
